His Royal Highness Dom Renato I of Pontinha is fighting for the independence of his own country, the Principality of Pontinha. The Portuguese government confiscated the islet of Forte de São José from His Royal Highness without respecting his right to property, a right recognised by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (see article XVII). The sovereignty of the Principality of Pontinha is based on a document called the “Carta Regia”.

This document, the Carta Regia, shows that the ownership and sovereignty of the islet of Forte de São José was created and sold by Dom Carlos I, the King of Portugal, in 1903. Therefore, in legal terms, Pontinha is a legitimate sovereign state, even if it is not recognised by the member countries of the United Nations.

His Royal Highness Dom Renato I is a modern Prince and uses social media to communicate news related to his own legitimate Sovereign State, the Principality of Pontinha. Last week, His Royal Highness discussed the following idea with one of his noble diplomats in the United States of America: The Principality’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing to issue passports to diplomatic members of the Principality, if they so wish; these passports will have a respective identification number issued by His Royal Highness’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

So Pontinha is behaving like what it is, a legitimate sovereign state. His Royal Highness Dom Renato I is following the example of the Principality Abbaziale di Seborga, and other quasi-national entities, i.e. states not recognised by the countries of the United Nations, which are classified as micronations.

The diplomatic passport project is not the only activity of the Principality of Pontinha; His Royal Highness Dom Renato I also has other projects in mind for his country. He is looking for dedicated diplomats and ministers who can help the Principality obtain state recognition from the Republic of Portugal and other states.

If you are interested, have the time and want to take part in making history for this small nation, you are invited to take part in the diplomatic process and obtain dual nationality.
